By volume, Lake Baikal is the largest freshwater lake in the world. It contains roughly 20% of the unfrozen freshwater on earth. It's also the deepest lake in the world with its bottom point at 1642 meters. It's surface area covers 31,722 km2, it contains more water than the Great Lakes in North America, combined.
